Council passed the first two readings of bylaw amendments to rezone three, city-owned lots along Pleasant Street to parks and open space from single-family low density.

Public hearing dates are set for Tuesday, May 13, at City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.

A planning and development services department report states that lots 6, 7 and 8 (located west of the Heritage Terrace residential development at 795 Noons Creek Dr.) have a combined area of 990 square metres (0.24 acres) and are "densely forested and steeply sloping towards Noons Creek."

Council was unanimous in voting to send the amendments to public hearings, but Coun. Shannon Watkins voted against first three readings to dedicate the lots as park and moved to defer the park dedication until after the hearings.

Watkins said residents may question the validity of the public hearings if council moves forward to dedicate the park before the hearings take place.
