Residents of Kalhanie Drive in Port Moody sent a petition to council Tuesday asking for increased police presence due to newfound gangland neighbours.
Of nine shootings in recent days in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, three have taken place in the Tri-Cities.
Jonathan Bacon, a member of the notorious Bacon brothers of Abbotsford, is now living in Port Moody, where police have warned residents to consider him and any of his associates dangerous.
"Issues involving public safety belong with the police department," Mayor Joe Trasolini said. "There is a very clear separation between the responsibilities of council and those of the police, and this should be respected."
Council has all the confidence in PMPD Chief Const. Brad Parker and his department, Trasolini added.
Parker said police have been very proactive in dealing with the gang issue in Port Moody.
"The press has been rather diligent in reporting our progress," Parker said.
"Where we can, we will release the appropriate information."
Requests for the exact request made by petitioners and the number of names on the petition were not returned by NOW deadlines.
