Port Moody city council will hold an emergency meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 to decide whether to accept or reject the contentious Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy.

Council had previously rejected the region's growth plan due to what they consider inadequate transportation plans for Port Moody given the population growth targets that Metro is asking for.

The dropping of the Murray-Clarke connector was a key factor in council's decision to reject the plan and implement a "no growth" strategy for the city.

But council was told by Metro Vancouver CAO Johnny Carline that the city's rejection of the strategy on principle rather than on the basis of specific clauses, would be viewed by the Metro Vancouver board as "deemed acceptance" of the plan.

City council will meet with staff before Tuesday to "draft suitable language, verify compliance with legislation and bring forward a new resolution to the special council meeting," according to a motion made at last night's council meeting.

Coquitlam will hold a public input session on the regional growth strategy at 7 p.m. Wednesday (March 9) to hear residents' responses to the Metro plan
