Business

A strong business community in Port Moody is essential, and makes our town more livable. With the changes being brought by Skytrain and development in Port Moody, we need to identify avenues of change/transition, and ways we can either help existing companies or attract new businesses to our city.

In my previous term on Council, as chair of the Economic Development Committee, I championed the return of the Spike Awards business recognition event, and introduced the business roundtable, where business owners have an opportunity to meet with each other and city council/senior staff to discuss their issues. I have worked hard with Golden Spike Days, Suburban Rush and Summer Sunday Concert Series to promote Port Moody as a 'tourism' destination. I have started the process for Murray Street business owners to seek a new identity in that area of the city.

As Mayor, I have continued to promote local business, with events including the 10% Shift event and the Connecting with Business speaker/networking series.  I have connected with local businesses and business groups to identify areas of opportunity for the City to promote and support our local businesses.  And, of course, I am a constant cheerleader and promoter of our local businesses.
