Transportation

Port Moody is a commuter corridor, and previous planning decisions and policies had been created around promised infrastructure that had never materialized. However, now with the Evergreen Line under construction and soon the adoption of the new Official Community Plan (OCP) we need to move forward with the needed updates to the Transportation Master Plan.

We need to work with our neighbours, Translink, and the province to identify the solutions for our regional transportation issues - rapid transit will help to serve the increased population expected in the region over the next several years, but, it will never take all of the traffic off our roads.

As Mayor, I have made it a priority to improve the relationship between Port Moody and the other municipalities in the Tri Cities, including the formation of a joint Transportation Committee with PoCo and Coquitlam.I have worked with the Translink Mayors Council to deliver a never before achieved level of co-operation and a regional vision endorsed by 22 Metro Vancouver municipalities. We continue working with the Province on a referendum question to be put before Metro voters.

We must continue open discussions with Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore, Belcarra, Translink and the province to identify the regional commitment to improving our transportation issues.

With that information, I will continue to engage the business community and the residents, and lead Council and staff to come up with a solution that meets our needs and fits into the regional network.
