FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PORT MOODY – The City of Port Moody goes to the polls on April 17 to elect a Councillor to a vacant seat. At the same time, voters will be asked their opinion on whether they support Skytrain through Moody Centre. Council is on record as preferring a south-east alignment of rapid transit along Lougheed Mall south-east along Lougheed Highway to Coquitlam Centre and the eastern boundary of Port Moody, rather than a route through Moody Centre, the heart of the City’s heritage area. A recent survey confirms that an overwhelming majority of Tri-City residents believe Skytrain should be built down the Coquitlam Lougheed corridor. "None of the respondents in the survey were told the Lougheed corridor was a less expensive alternative, yet nearly all selected this location anyhow," commented Glen P. Robbins, Robbins SCE Research, who conducted the survey. The random telephone survey included a total of 240 persons, 110 respondents from Coquitlam, 70 from Port Coquitlam and 60 from Port Moody. This survey features a margin of error of 2.5-3.5%, 18 times out of 20 at 97% competency. |
