Port Moody council will consider awarding a Murray-Clarke Connector contract worth nearly $1.3 million at its next meeting Tuesday.

Staff are recommending the project’s detailed design and engineering be awarded to Associated Engineering (B.C.) Ltd. for $1,257,635. The report to council cites the construction industry’s high inflationary costs as the reason for proceeding less than a month after TransLink increased funding from $25 million to $50 million for the overpass.

Associated Engineering worked on the connector’s original design in 2005, and the preliminary design of the west option that was submitted to TransLink. City spokesperson Colleen Rohde said putting the contract out to tender would likely cost the city more by delaying the project.
