Forums tackle sustainability

By Jeff Nagel - The Tri-City News - June 17, 2008

Metro Vancouver is holding a series of “sustainability summits” to help chart the future of the region.

The sub-regional sessions aim to tackle transportation and growth issues, energy and the environment, and drugs and crime.

Sessions are planned in five different locations, divided into those three streams. Participants will help debate the issues and set goals that will then help set the stage for a first-ever Future of the Region Sustainability Summit later this fall.

The first forum was held yesterday in North Vancouver and one is being held tonight (Wednesday) in Vancouver at BCIT’s downtown campus (555 Seymour St.). The rest of the sessions are:

• June 24 in Surrey, at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel, 15269 104 Ave.;

• June 25 in Coquitlam, at the Executive Plaza Hotel, 405 North Rd.;

• and June 26 in Richmond, at the Executive Plaza Hotel, 7311 Westminster Rd.

All forums run from 8 a.m. to noon.

You can register at www.metrovancouver.org to attend. More information on the issues and summits is also available online.
