THAT Council decline the request from MADD - Metro Vancouver Chapter for the use of Rocky Point Park for a Safety Fair on June 26, 2010 as the park is expected to see heavy usage during that time period, and that the group be advised of the decision.

2. Public Input
 
Shawn LeClair, resident of North Vancouver, former Port Moody homeowner and organizer of the Suburban Rush event recently held in Port Moody spoke to the reasons for wanting to hold this event in Port Moody. She noted that they have developed good relationships with the community of Port Moody and local schools in the area whose students do volunteer work at the event. She noted the number of sponsors that participate in the event and advised that a contribution is given to Eagle Ridge Hospital as a result of the event. She commented on the safe and organized nature of the event and their hopes that they can continue with this event in Port Moody in the future.
 
 
Julie Pavey, Manager of Parks and Environmental Services outlined the project and introduced Amy Jones, visual arts teacher, along with students Isabelle Kim, Arthur Gimenes and Paige Rohrick from Heritage Woods Secondary School who presented Council with their design ideas for a mural at the North Shore tennis courts.

THAT staff work with Heritage Woods School to paint two murals at the North Shore Tennis Court.
 
 
Jim Millar, Manager/Curator, Port Moody Station Museum noted the capital budget for Museum projects. One of the grants for one of the projects will not be available but he is exploring other grant opportunities. He suggested adjustments to the timing of the projects in order to take best advantage of available grants. Mr. Rockwood suggested a formal budget change request be brought forward and a bylaw amendment could be considered at that time.

9.2  Release of In Camera Decisions
 

Release of In-Camera items approved for public release:

February 23, 2010 Fire Hall #1 Reconstruction and Future Land Use for Knowle Street/Civic Centre Area

THAT staff bring back a report on re-building the new fire hall on the existing site, which report is to address the following:
cost difference between building on the existing  site as compared to any other separate site;
impact on riparian areas;
impact on cost;
logistics and operational impacts of building while  the fire department occupies site;
opportunities to relocate the building within that site and identify any surplus land; and,
opportunities for mixed use and cost of an alternate site for training purposes.

March 23, 2010 Fire Hall #1 Reconstruction on Existing Site

THAT staff report back with an amended design that includes the maximum Department of Fisheries and Oceans riparian setback guideline and maximizes training space;

AND THAT staff advise BC Ambulance that a new Fire Hall is in the planning stages and seek their interest in occupying space within the building.

April 13, 2010 Rocky Point Kayak – On-Water Permanent Facility DiscussionsUpdate

THAT staff be authorized to continue discussions, with Rocky Point Kayak for a partnership to move forward with an on-water permanent facility at the location proposed in the April 13th, 2010 presentation by Rocky Point Kayak with a view to a lease for Rocky Point Kayak to provide ongoing recreational opportunities, subject to the roof line of the on-water facility not exceeding the height of the railing of the pier at an average high tide.
