4.1 Round Table Sessions: Facilitating Employment-Based Development in Port Moody

The General Manager of Development Services provided an overview of the round table sessions held on March 4-6, 2015, and introduced the facilitator of the sessions, Mr. Eric Vance, Vance & Associates.

Mr. Vance provided an overview of the sessions, noting that participants were from a variety of backgrounds and organizations, and that the aim of the sessions was to gather participants' views on Port Moody's competitiveness in attracting employment-generating development, and gain an understanding of the City's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and receive suggestions on what the City could realistically do to fully capitalize on Port Moody's strengths and opportunities and overcome any weaknesses and threats.
Mr. Vance responded to questions from Council regarding the selection of participants for the sessions, potential next steps the City could take, the importance of certainty for encouraging development in the City, the need for clarity in the Zoning Bylaw and the Official Community Plan, the needs and wants of developers looking to work in Port Moody, and the concept of Port Moody as an incubator for high tech companies.

THAT the Development Services - Planning Division report dated June 5, 2015 regarding Public Consultation Update and Consideration of the Draft Tree Protection Bylaw and Related Amendments to the Municipal Ticket Information Utilization Bylaw be forwarded to Council for consideration with the following recommendations:
THAT Tree Protection Bylaw No. 2961, 2015, be read a first, second, and third time as recommended in the report dated June 5, 2015 from Development Services - Planning Division;
AND THAT Municipal Ticket Information Utilization Bylaw No. 2011, No. 2896 Amendment Bylaw No. 3, 2015, No. 2962, be read a first, second, and third time as recommended in the report dated June 5, 2015 from Development Services - Planning Division.
