1.1 Introduction of Art at Council
Verbal Report: Mayor Clay / File: 18-7705-01

Mayor Clay noted that the City recently launched a new Artist Caretaker in Residence program at Rocky Point Park, which combines the roles of an Artist in Residence and a Resident Parks Caretaker. In exchange for rent-free living and studio space, the Artist Caretaker will engage the community in a variety of ways over the next 14 months, as well as provide Parks Caretaker services for the City.
Mayor Clay noted that the successful candidate of this new initiative, Ryan Mellors, is a professional circus artist who has been presenting new works of contemporary juggling and manipulation at festivals and theatres around the world for the past ten years. Mayor Clay noted that Mr. Mellors has been invited to create new circus works with such companies as the Vancouver Circus School, Cirque Du Soleil, and the International Juggling Association, and recently returned from a month-long tour of shows in Japan and Cambodia.
Mayor Clay welcomed Mr. Mellors to the stage to perform and noted that he will be in and around Rocky Point Park throughout the summer.
Mr. Mellors provided an overview of his background in juggling and circus arts, noting that he grew up in Port Moody and is happy to be back for this opportunity to contribute to the community.

2. Public Input
Eric Wolf, Port Moody, expressed concerns about high real estate prices and asked whether the City is encouraging or has zoning for laneway houses or tiny homes.
David Ungless, Port Moody, expressed concerns about the questionnaires used for the public consultation sessions regarding the former Fire Hall and current Works Yard sites, and the Kyle Centre site. Mr. Ungless noted that he is worried about costs that the City may incur with the redevelopment of these sites.
Katie Marsh, Port Moody, provided follow-up information to her June 7, 2016 delegation regarding the City flag. Ms. Marsh noted that flags do not always fly straight out, but are often viewed waving in the wind, so a simple design is best. Ms. Marsh provided some examples of flags that she feels are well designed.
David Ritcey, Port Moody, expressed concerns that the City is notbeing proactive enough with regard to adding buildings to the Heritage Register.
Dan Eaton, Port Moody, noted that he is applying to have his home on Henry Street added to the City¡¦s Heritage Register. Mr. Eaton noted that the house has an amazing history, which he would like to preserve by restoring the exterior to its original beauty, while modernizing the interior to meet the needs of his growing family.
