1.1 Introduction of Art at Council Verbal Report: Mayor Clay File: 18-7705-01
Mayor Clay called the meeting to order at 7:04pm and introduced the evening's Art at Council, a presentation on barbequing by Rusty Johnson. Mayor Clay noted that Mr. Johnson competes on the world stage of culinary arts and has won numerous provincial, national, and world championships, many for multiple years running; has represented Canada at the World Championship of BBQ five times; won the World Burger Championship in 2015; has won the Canadian National Burger Competition annually since 2014; and has won a total of seven BBQ Grand Championships. Mayor Clay thanked Mr. Johnson for providing food for Council to sample prior to the evening's meeting, noting that the meal was delicious and that Council is proud to have such an accomplished culinary artist from Port Moody. Mr. Johnson spoke about the art of barbequing, noting that he considers the creation of meals to be an art form, and that he enjoys playing with the colours and textures of food to create unique dishes. Mr. Johnson expressed gratitude to Mayor and Council for their support and invited everyone to stop by and try his creations when he is cooking at local events.

Recommendation adopted on consent: THAT the Dog Waste Diversion Pilot Program be expanded to include three additional locations as recommended in the report dated September 1, 2017 from Environment and Parks Department-Sustainability Division regarding Dog Waste Diversion Pilot Program Expansion; AND THAT a total of $10,100 be allocated from the Sanitation Utility Reserve to fund the additional waste collection bins; AND THAT the 2018 Financial Plan include annual funding in the amount of $16,600 from the Sanitation Utility Reserve to continue the Dog Waste Diversion Pilot Program.

11.1 Council Verbal Reports Councillor Lahti requested clarification about whether a petition from June 2016 regarding Bert Flinn Park had been received by staff. Staff indicated that the petition has not been received. Councillor Royer noted that September 20 and 23 will be Advance Voting opportunities for the upcoming By-Election and wished best of luck to all candidates. Mayor Clay congratulated the Port Moody Seniors Friendship Society on a successful first fundraising event, a golf tournament held in August. Mayor Clay expressed gratitude to staff for all the work that was put into several events held during recent months, including the City's first Car Free Day and the CP 150 Celebration. Mayor Clay noted that school zone safety is a concern with schools now back in session and thanked the Port Moody Police for helping with enhanced enforcement around school zones. Mayor Clay thanked Senior Planner, Alex Taylor, for his contribution to the City and wished him success in his new position at Metro Vancouver.
11.2 Staff Verbal Reports The City Manager thanked Alex Taylor for his service to the City and wished him well in his new job at Metro Vancouver. The City Manager also expressed gratitude to Senior Project Engineer, Brian Barnett, for his contribution to the City and wished him well in his new position on Vancouver Island.
