Development and Growth

Port Moody has grown substantially, very quickly - and our infrastructure and services are struggling to keep up. We have seen growth take place in the city in very responsibly planned 'communities', including Newport, Klahanie and Suterbrook.

Now, with the coming of the Evergreen Skytrain Line, there are exciting opportunities for development that takes advantage of the transit infrastructure.  With the Skytrain route through Moody Centre, there are challenges of balancing 'in fill' development, around the stations, with protecting our heritage districts and enhancing our commercial zones.

Port Moody has been a preferred place to live for the past 6 years, and will only become more popular with the access to Skytrain - with increased population comes the need for more services, amenities and green space.   We also need to help maintain affordability in our housing options, through initiatives like laneway housing.

With the revised OCP in place, including a 30 year vision, we can move forward with turning the vision to reality in Moody Centre - it will take a lot of hard work to ensure that the words are turned into a reality that residents embrace and enjoy.  That work starts with updating our zoning bylaw, to include the principles I have been advocating for since first being elected in 2005:  laneway housing, heritage preservation, green space expansion, strategic densification and adopting policies that assist in affordability.
