The Editor,

Re. “Translink funding decision on connector not fair” (Letters, The Tri-City News, Dec. 16).

A letter to Port Coquitlam Coun. Greg Moore:

Your letter comes off like sour grapes.

What is not fair about Port Moody getting adequate funding to build a proper connector?

Have you not read the War and Peace-like chronology of bureaucracy that Port Moody city councils past and present have had to endure?

The gridlock along the Murray-Clarke corridor adds roughly 15 minutes to my commute each day — that’s 75 minutes a week, 51 hours a year.

Let me remind you that it is Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam residents who make up the bulk of drivers using the arterial route through Port Moody. Coun. Moore, your PoCo constituents will be great benefactors of the new Murray-Clarke Connector.

I am proud of Port Moody’s mayor and city council for so diligently getting this problematic issue into the public eye.

I also found it baffling how non-existent the mayors of Coquitlam and PoCo were on this issue when it clearly benefits their own citizens. I found it refreshing that our city council was so passionate about getting this much needed project funded and approved.

Port Moody council stopped issuing building permits to developers because our road infrastructure was not keeping up with development and population increases.

Perhaps PoCo and Coquitlam should follow that lead. It’s called responsible government.

A. Hyde, Port Moody
