The first piece of the tunnel boring machine to build the $1.4-billion Evergreen Line arrived in Port Moody today (Tuesday).

The massive section of equipment called the cutter head, weighing 130 tonnes came by rail and truck to PoMo from the Ontario manufacturer to help drill the 2 km tunnel under the Seaview neighbourhood, west of Barnet Highway.

Tunnel construction expected to start in February.
