Early indications are that provincial school grants are good news for School District 43.

District spokesperson Cheryl Quinton said grants announced by the provincial government Thursday should cover wage increases for teachers and support workers as well as higher premiums for teacher pensions.

An enrolment reserve, money held back until all the enrolment numbers are in, will be back for 2007/’08 instead of being put toward salary costs as it was this year, according to Quinton.

Thursday, Education Minister Shirley Bond announced $216.1 million for local schools, up $6.6 million from last year, despite an enrolment drop.

Quinton said more details will be presented at the next board meeting April 3.
