Choice: On Track to Transport 2040

$450 million more annually to create a sustainable region

Significant transportation investments under this plan will help make walking, cycling and transit become real options for everyday travel. Funding sources to support this level of investment include increases to existing sources and a new Transportation Improvement Fee. This choice also requires a commitment from senior government to give access to additional funding.


Level of Transportation Investment

Transit Service
 
  • 400 new buses to add new routes and additional capacity on capacity existing routes
  • 250 buses reinvested in new & improved services
  • 20 per cent net increase in bus service
  • Significant expansion of Frequent Transit Network
  • Expansion of West Coast Express capacity

Rapid Transit
 
  • Funding for Evergreen Line
  • Expo Line station improvements and capacity upgrades
  • $3.7 billion for major rail and/or bus rapid transit expansion on priority corridors, including Broadway, Surrey, and others region-wide
  • More than doubling of rapid transit service hours
  • Total of 138 new SkyTrain cars

Roads and Bridges
 
  • $75 million/year for road improvement projects (36% increase)
  • Road maintenance funding at 100% of required levels
  • $12 million for bridge rehabilitation
  • New Pattullo Bridge (tolled)
  • $7 million for transit priority and safety on roads

Cycling
 
  • Annual cycling program investment increased to $23 million
  • Significant contributions for: Municipal cycling initiatives , New commuter greenways and upgrades to BC Parkway, & Safety and access improvements

Customer Information and Safety
 
  • Expansion of TravelSmart program and other customer support services
  • Implementation of improved wayfinding and signage
  • Improvements to communications technology on buses and trains
  • Accessibility improvements to TransLink facilities
  • Smartcard and gating system implemented
